About the Estate
PDF Print E-mail

Apart from the house, gardens, walled orchard and kitchen garden, the estate comprises over 200 acres of field, broadleaf woodland and lakes. It is surrounded by hills from which Croagh Patrick may be climbed and overlooks Westport and Clew Bays. There are miles of trails through old hazel, birch, ash and oak woodland, hiding the ruins of pre-famine cottages with their field walls, and carpeted in spring with bluebells in autumn abundant in mushrooms. There are spectacular views over Clew Bay to Achill, Clare Island and the Nephin Range.

Prospect House itself comprises the main house which is a small two storey 18th century farm house, at the rear of which is a courtyard former by what were in the distant past cottages, then stables and byre and, following recent re-conversion, are three comfortable and attractive apartments.
